MDC’s steadfast love to her patron, the Mother of God, to whom the college is named after was proven once more as the college celebrated Mama Mary’s birthday last September 8. On the vespers of Mother Mary’s birthday, the college prepared a line up of activities such as interpretative dance contest, guitar rendition, and poster making based on the theme, Mama Mary: Model of Purity for the Youth. Even the little ones, the pupils of MDC Laboratory Elementary School (LES), actively joined the celebration by way of a solemn interpretation of the Magnificat, Mary’s song of praise to God. The grade 7 students of the recently-opened MDC High School joined their big brothers and sisters in the college department to give honor and praises to the Blessed Mother. Another highlight was the Living Rosary which was done in front of the chapel.

On the day itself of the Mama Mary’s birthday, MDCians were up long before the sun was up since they had a Mananita, a way of greeting the celebrant through Marian songs. Adding to the solemnity of the flower offering were the sky lanterns which lighted the still-dark surroundings of the school vicinity as the celebration started at 4 o’clock dawn. A procession around Cabulijan immediately followed. Torches and candles served to light the way of the devotees as they prayed the Holy Rosary to commemorate the life of Mama Mary. When the procession wound up, a Holy Mass was held at the Activity Center. The homily was centered on how Mama Mary should serve as a model not only for the youths but also for the adults. Then, a light breakfast was served by the SSG, much to the delight of the already starving students and teachers.
