With this year’s theme, “First Hello to a Closer Tomorrow,” Mater Dei College celebrates acquaintance party with special participation of Smart Communications held at the MDC Activity Center on July 11.
Students arrived wearing their fascinating black and white attires with matching fashionable masks that made them look more beautiful and gorgeous. A Eucharistic celebration was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Tomas Balatayo, Jr., college chaplain, as a thanksgiving and for the success of the event. Then, The singing of the national anthem and Bohol hymn was led by the MDC Chorale. An electrifying dance number from the Performing Arts Ensemble ushered the yells and cheers among different colleges. The freshmen students took the limelight as they showcased their dance presentations. Afterwards, the faculty and staff also unveiled their talents in singing and dancing to the delight of the students. The morning session came to end after the oath taking ceremony of newly –elected organizational officers.
Lunch was done by advisory, but this did not stop students to meet new friends in nearby classrooms turned dining areas. Shortly after luncheon was the most awaited event of the day- the “Jump- in Hip hop dance showdown” sponsored by Smart telecommunications. Participants from each college wowed the audience and gave the judges a high –time to decide the winner with their spectacular moves and grooves. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) team emerged victorious among seven contenders. Mr. Christopher Asuncion L. Arcay, chair of CAS, smiled from ear to ear with his team’s winning the grand prize.
To give the students and teachers a time to relax and connect with God, a Taize prayer headed by Student Catholic Action members (SCANs) was held at the chapel. After dinner, a disco gave everyone the opportunity not only to meet but also to dance with newly- found friends.
