The Mater Dei College Basic Education Department held her students’ orientation for school year 2014-2015 last June 2, 2014. In time for the opening of classes, all students, old and new alike, were gathered in the MDC Activity Center to be welcomed to their new home, the MDC BED. They also had a chance to meet their administrators, advisers, subject teachers, classmates, and friends.
Following the MDCian tradition, the program was started with a Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Tomas L. Balatayo, Jr., the campus minister. Shortly after the mass was the welcome proper kicked off by the school principal, Dr. Regina E. Cabarrubias’ welcome address and recognition of students. So that the students will get a closer and better look at their mentors, Dr. Jasmin M. Sumipo, the Assistant Principal, did the recognition of teachers. Important and urgent reminders were tackled by the Vice President for Academics, Dr. Ceferina H. Ranario, who is also acting as the Overa-all Supervisor of the the MDC BED. Reminders on garbage segregation as well as maintenance of cleanliness within the school campus were given emphasis by the Dr. Angelica T. Lanoy, the Vice President for Administration.
Recognizing the importance of the library in academic field, Ms. Aileen Iter, the MDC BED Librarian, discussed the rules and guidelines in using the library as well as how students can maximize their library time. The role of student governance and the importance of co-curricular activities in students’ lives were tackled by Teovy Erdel Bongcales and Ms. Syville Zoi Juation who are the Supreme Stuent Government President and Student Catholic Action President respectively. Joshua Christian Dagang and Alexa Shanen Lustre were the hosts of the program.
